Betty Jant Young

BETTY JANE YOUNG Zeigler-Betty Jane Young, 73, of Zeigler passed away at 5:40 P.M. on Saturday June 11, 2011 in the Herrin Hospital.

Betty was born on July 2, 1937 in Barboursville, West Virginia the daughter of William H. and Geneva J. (Stover) Tinsley. She married Bernard “Ben” Young on April 9, 1956 in Johnston City. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2004.

Betty was a retired cook working for Williamson County Programs on Aging. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Johnston City.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Betty J. Opatt of Zeigler, Crystal L. Opatt of Zeigler, and James Opatt Jr. and wife Shanna of West Frankfort; four great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Aidan King, Addison Opatt, and Ethan Bense; a son-in-law, Scott Opatt Sr. of Zeigler; three brothers, Larry, Charles, and Orville; one sister, Frances; and several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Ann Cobb of Johnston City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Elizabeth J. Opatt on August 7, 1998.

A memorial service will be held on Friday June 17, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church in Johnston City with Pastor Lee Petty officiating. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.

She was a beloved grandmother who will be greatly missed.
