Allene Hess was born on September 23, 1937 in Herin Hospital to Carl and Mildred (Hoffard) Sanders of Johnston City.
Allene became an LPN in 1971 working various nursing jobs until 1980 when she began working at Frankfort Heights Manor. She worked there till 1991 when she left and became an LPN at Herin Hospital. She worked Acute Rehab till 2009 when she retired after 38 years of service.
Allene had many interests in her long life. She loved being outdoors with her family. She enjoyed camping, fishing, swimming, and looking for Indian arrow heads. She also loved spending time with her family on a houseboat of our lifelong friend, Bill Hampsey. She was an avid reader and loved gardening. Packing her yard full of exotic bushes, trees, and cacti; much to the consternation of her son who had to mow around them. She loved finding new hobbies and things to collect as long as it included family. Every year was something new.
Allene is preceded in death by both of her parents, Carl and Mildred Sanders; her husband, Perry Hess; a daughter-in-law, Georgia (Beasley) Smith; and two preterm great grandchildren.
She is survived by her 4 children, Dwayne and Connie (Sexton) Smith of Amarillo, TX, Roger Smith Atkins, AR, Renee (Smith) Pearce of Johnston City, and Kyle Hess of Carbondale; 8 grandchildren, Koleytta (Pearce) and Luke Williams of Benton, Brittany, Shanice, Nicole, Lance Smith of Texas, Elizabeth Smith of Rockford, and Amber and Caleb Smith of Fayetteville, AR; several great grandchildren, sister, Terry (Sanders) Englebright and her husband Greg of Crestview, FL, and their two children, Jason Englebright of Marion, and Katrina Englebright of Fairbanks, AK.
