AUDIE R. "DOGGIE" RAINS

Johnston City-Audie Rains 81, of Johnston City passed away at 1:07 P.M. on Friday April 8, 2011 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Graveside services will be held on Friday April 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with Pastor Walter Allen officiating and there will be military rites conducted by Marion VFW, American Legion and Illinois Army National Guard. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Murman and Wilson Funeral Home of Johnston City is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes will be available at the cemetery.

Audie was born on October 2, 1929 in Pittsburg the son of Audie H. and Evelyn (Hayes) Rains. He was married to Lenda (Berry) for fifty-one years, she survives. He enjoyed fishing, horseshoes with family and friends, hunting and watching his baby girl Paige play basketball. The best years of his life was spent with the family at his cabin on the Ohio River.

Audie was a business agent for Local 567 for over twenty years, he was a former Johnston City alderman in ward one, a Democrat precinct committeeman, a member of the Laborers Local 773 for fifty years, lifetime member of the VFW Post 1301 of Marion, member of the American Legion in Herrin, he served in WWII in the Army, he worked construction and retired as sexton at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City, he was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Johnston City.

He is survived by two daughters, Angel Cobb and husband Randy of Marion, Crystal Jennings and husband Jake of Marion, grandchildren, Tara Brymer and husband Lonnie of Johnston City, Jamie Richey of Marion, and great-grandchildren, Paige, Peyton, Autum, and special cousins, Norma, Russell and Kim. He will be sadly missed by friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rick Rains, one sister, Bette Alexander and three brothers, Jack Dee Rains, Cecil Rains, and Henry "Penny" Rains.
