BENNIE "BUCK" DARE
Johnston City-Bennie "Buck" Dare 76 passed away on Tuesday March 19, 2024 at 4:22 P.M. at home.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday March 26, 2024 at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with military graveside rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W. American Legion and the U.S. Army burial Detail Team. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made in Ben's name to the Johnston City First Responders and will be available at the cemetery and the funeral home.
Ben was born on October 3, 1947 in Herrin the son of Ray and Bessie (Vick) Dare.
He was a retired from the Johnston City Post Office where he delivered mail on the rural route for 35 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War proudly serving in the army serving in Vietnam from June 10, 1969 to August 10, 1970 and was decorated with the Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts. He loved to travel and had traveled to all 50 states and all 7 continents.
He is survived by his sisters, Linda Caron, Virginia Howerton and husband Bob, Brenda Litton and husband Ron; a niece, Cindy Catt; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; close friends Rob Lawrence, Paul Reed, and John Roth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Louie Caron; and his nephew, Chad Howerton.
