BESSIE (VICK) DARE

Johnston City–Bessie (Vick) Dare 91, of Johnston City passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 4:45 A.M. at Fountains Nursing Home in Marion.

Services will be held at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City on Saturday March 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Sr. Catherine Wellinghoff officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. till 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Catholic Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral Home.

Bessie was born on June 12, 1918, in Johnston City, the daughter of Bennie and Maggie (Summers) Vick. She married Ray Dare on July 29, 1938 in Johnston City. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1989. They shared 51 years together.

Bessie was a homemaker and retired cook at the Johnston City High School.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Johnston City and taught Sunday School for 45 years. She accepted Christ as her Savior in April of 1928.

She is survived by one son, Ben Dare of Johnston City; two daughters, Virginia Howerton and husband Bob of Johnston City, and Linda Caron of Gas City, IN; one granddaughter, Cindy Catt of Swayzee, IN; three great grandchildren, Keira Catt, Seira Catt, and Gary Ian Catt of Swayzee, IN; one special niece, Brenda Litton and husband Ronnie of Johnston City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gertie Martin and Pauline McIntosh; one brother, Howard "Buster" Vick; one precious grandson, Chad Chandler Howerton; and a son-in-law, Louie Caron.
