BETTY L. SAMUEL

Herrin–Betty Louise Samuel 88, of Herrin, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 5:47 P.M. at her family home.

A graveside service will be held at the Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor David Dyer officiating. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Williamson County Child Advocacy Center in Herrin. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.

Betty was born on May 21, 1927 in Westmont, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon Howard "Hoppy" and Ruby (Rogers) Perrine. She married Robert F. Samuel on November 16, 1947 in Johnston City. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son, Brian Dale Samuel.

Betty worked in numerous business offices, most recently at the Illinois Department of Human Services/Bureau for the Blind. She was a 1945 graduate of Johnston City High School. Betty loved books and was an avid reader. She loved traveling with family, especially to the beach and would come home with a load of rocks and shells. If she was asked, "Do you want to go?" she would say," Let me grab my purse!" She loved antiques, especially old bottles and cherry plates. She enjoyed meeting with friends from The Junk Bunch and her antique classes. Betty was always happy to gather with family. Favorites from her kitchen were Coke jello and chocolate cake with fluffy white frosting.
She loved and entertained her family lots and lots, and she will be missed by all of us.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Jo Samuel Shakir of Aurora and Mary Joyce Samuel of Carterville; grandchildren, Linda Mundell Simmers, Leanne Mundell Anderson, Jason Samuel, and Jamie Samuel-Smith; great grandchildren, Cameron Mundell, Melani Anderson, Carter Anderson, Sebastian Mundell, Athena Simmers, Levi Samuel, Allison Greenwood, and Haylee Smith; two sisters, Dolly and her husband Gene "Kayo" McFarland of Charleston and Linda Lattuada Williams and her husband Dale of Herrin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
