BETTY JANE SMITH

Johnston City–Betty Jane Smith 80, of Johnston City, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 8:11 A.M. at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.

Services will be held at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City on Sunday July 31, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Larry Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. till 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Betty was born on February 13, 1936 in Franklin County, the daughter of Loren Ray and Eva Irene (Daub) Smith.

Betty retired from United Food and Commercial Workers International Union as Area Administrator. Betty was a life time member of the Williams Prairie Missionary Baptist Church. Betty was an avid reader and loved garage sales. Betty loved her family.

She is survived by three sisters, Patricia Nadine Summers and husband Willie, Roselee Clayton and husband Jerry and Judith Rae Culbreth; two brothers, Michael Loren Smith and Paul Smith and wife Darlene; nine nieces and nephews; twenty great nieces and nephews; six great-great nieces and nephew; and a great-great niece or nephew due in January.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a niece, Vicki Lauren Summers; a nephew, Mitchell Summers; brother-in-law, Larry Dean Culbreth; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Elizabeth Smith.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
