BONNIE N. MATHENY

West Frankfort–Bonnie N. Matheny 99 of West Frankfort passed away at 4:05 A.M. on Sunday January 15, 2012 in the Century Assisted Living Center in Carbondale.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday January 17, 2012 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Paul Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.

Memorials may be made to the West Frankfort Library, Johnston City Library, or to VNA/TIP Hospice of Murphysboro. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Bonnie was born on December 29, 1912 in Williamson County the daughter of Robert and Sophia (Follis) Richmond. She married James Matheny on July 25, 1934 in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1995.

Bonnie was a retired educator. She first taught in Stiritz School, and then she taught in Leigh School, and finally the Johnston City Schools. She had a great love of basketball and reading all the current books. She enjoyed making pottery, jewelry, and traveling with her husband, grandchildren, and her special friend.

She survived by one daughter, Sophia Sharon Gosnell of Murphysboro; three grandchildren, R. E. Bridges IV and wife Sandy of Makanda, Bonnie Ann Ruby and husband Jon of Palm Harbor, FL, and James R. Jorgenson and wife Kelly of Vergennes; six great grandchildren, Casi Doiel, Buddy Bridges, R.J. Bridges, Logan Ruby, Hannah Ruby, and Zac Jorgenson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Keith Matheny; a brother, Kenneth Richmond; a sister, Voyage Young; and a brother, Robert Richmond.
