CARL C. DAVIS

Marion-Carl C. Davis, 94 of Marion passed away at 1:40 P.M. on Friday May 3, 2013 at Parkway Manor in Marion with Leo and Marsha by his side.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday May 7, 2013 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Keith Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and the Illinois Army National Guard.

Carl was born on January 21, 1919 in Marion the son of Coy William and Nettie (Odum) Davis. He married Geneva Mae Jones on August 7, 1943 in Dixon. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2007.

Carl joined the Navy in 1938 and served in the China Service, American Theater, Navy Occupation, National Defense Service, and did recruiting service in Marion. He retired from the Navy as Chief Warren Officer in 1958. He later worked as a supervisor at Universal Match Corp. then at Zeigler Coal Company in Johnston City

He was a member of the Family of God as he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of the American Legion-Post 0147, V.F.W.-Post 1301, Eagles, and U.S.S. Cabot.

After his second retirement, Carl and Geneva then moved to Florida for 20 years before returning home to Marion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, cars, repairing clocks, and eating out.

He is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo and Marsha Jones; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; a friend of the family, Dot Walker; friends and pen pals, Louise Scott and Gloria Price and others.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and James S. Taylor; step-father, Nickolas Papplas, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Claude Jones, Elizabeth and Hallet Farrar; and step-brother, Paul Papplas.
