CHARLES RANDAL FLEMING

Pittsburg-Charles Randal Fleming 64, of rural Pittsburg passed away at 11:40 A.M. on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion, with his loving family by his side.

Services will be held on Wednesday February 23, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church of Johnston City with Pastor Lee Petty officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Creek Cemetery southeast of Johnston City with military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W, American Legion, and Illinois Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Johnston City. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Charles or Charlie as everyone called him was born on July 9, 1946 in Herrin the son of Rudolph and Doris (Davis) Fleming.

He was a graduate of Johnston City High School. At 18 years of age, Charlie went into the army and honorably served his country in Germany.

Charlie married Brenda Forcum on January 7, 1972. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Superintendent. A friend to everyone, Charlie never meet a stranger. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed.

Retiring from Reaco Battery in 2008, Charlie looked forward to restoring his old car and doing some traveling. And now he has made the final journey and been reunited with his beloved daughter Jennifer who passed away on April 24, 2003. Her dog Pepper who became Charlie's constant companion died earlier this year.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; two daughters, Annette Keister and husband Dean of Benton, and Lisa Murray and husband Wayne of Colorado; one son, Robert Fleming and wife Shanna of Lowell, IN; three granddaughters, Jamie Lannom of Johnston City and fiancé Dan Kreuter of Nashville, TN, Jodie Garretson and husband Shawn of Chicago, and Jenna Caraway of Herrin; one grandson, Mitchell Fleming of Lowell, IN; three great grandchildren, Natelie Lewis, Abigail Lannom, and Whitlee Lannom; a sister, Lenora McNeil and husband Malcolm of Greenwood, IN; two sister-in-laws, Linda Fleming of Johnston City and Linda Davis of Herrin; three nieces; two nephews; several great nieces and great nephews; many friends and extended family members to mourn his passing.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Jennifer; two brothers, Ronnie and Leslie Fleming; and a nephew, Sam McNeil.
