CHARLES IVAN OWENS
Johnston City–Charles Ivan Owens, 77, of Johnston City, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 4:35 P.M. at the Herrin Hospital.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday July 26, 2015, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Chris Clendenin officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Navy Funeral Honors Burial Detail.
Charles was born on July 24, 1937 in Johnston City, the son of Edgar and Willie Mae (McCollum) Owens. He first married Marsha (Taylor) who preceded him in death in 1985. He later married Janie (Groves) Showmaker on May 17, 1988. She survives.
Charles retired from Maytag after working for 37 years. He was a veteran proudly serving in the Navy. He was an Ordained Deacon at the Church of God of Prophecy of Johnston City.
He is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Briscoe and husband Eric of Marion; one grandson, Ben Briscoe; one sister, Velma Burnett of Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Phyllis Stanislawski, Reba McCree, Helen Lucille Lester, and Wanda Onstott; and two brothers, William Owens and Bobby Dean Owens.
