CHARLES WILLIAM SHUKITES

Johnston City–Charles W. Shukites 83, of Johnston City passed away into the arms of his loving Savior at 9:00 A.M. Sunday July 10th at his home with his wife at his side. Pastor Bob Nolen and wife Jean Ann and good friend Brenda Edwards were also at the bedside.

Chuck was born January 1, 1933 to Michael and Elizabeth (Crawford) Shukites.
He was the first baby of the new year in Johnston city.

He attended Johnston City High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1950.

Chuck was united in marriage to Jean Alyce Miles June 17, 1961. Together they shared 55 years of marriage.

Upon completion of high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for four years. Twenty four months of that time was spent in Korea and Japan on the LST where he was the teletype operator.

When Chuck returned to Johnston City after his tour of duty with the navy, he enrolled at SIU and studied pre Engineering. He completed his education in Valparaiso, Indiana and received his degree in Electronic Engineering. Chuck accepted a job with Sangamo Electric in Springfield, Illinois. He worked in the tape lab building and inspecting the tape recorders. Companies such as NASA and Ford Motor Co. purchased these recorders for use in their products. Chuck then accepted employment with the state of Illinois in the EMS division in order to move back to Southern Illinois to care for aging parents. In this position he supplied radio equipment for police departments, fire fighters, hospitals, and ambulances. He also set up telemetry for local hospitals in this area. After a couple of years with the state, he began working for Motorola as an account executive in their Health care, Fire, EMS and state and local government market groups. He was then promoted to District sales manager of District I, Government Markets Division of Motorola Communications and Electronics, Inc. He was responsible for the 61 county area of central and southern Illinois.

Chuck and his wife loved attending the Sunday morning worship service at Parkway Manor in Marion. Reverend Bob Nolen is the minister that conducts this service. The service is an inspiration to the both of us.

Chuck was a caring, loving, and devoted husband and father to his late son, John. His heart was broken when John passed.

After his retirement he enjoyed spending time at his farm mowing, fishing, woodworking, or any odd jobs that needed tending to.

He is survived by his wife Jean and several cousins, Charlene and Marion Moore of West Frankfort, Marilyn and Ralph Clements of Arnold, Mo., and John and Judy Shukites of Christopher.

Chuck was preceded in death by his son, John, his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Shukites and in-laws, Ottie and Ella Lee Miles.

Memorials may be made to the Manna Mission in Johnston City or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday July 13, 2016, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Bob Nolen and Pastor Frankie Starrick officiating. Entombment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Navy Funeral Honors Detail. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
