CHESTER EVERLY
Stiritz-Chester Everly 88 of Stiritz passed away on Tuesday May 1, 2012 at 3:20 A.M. at the Rehab & Care Center of Jackson County.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday May 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American V.F.W., American Legion, and Illinois Army National Guard. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
Chester was born on January 1, 1924 in Johnston City the son of Simeon Harrison and Mary Elizabeth (Tate) Everly. He married Roberta (Killman) on March 4, 1950 in Johnston City. She preceded him in death on June 29, 1991.
Chester was a veteran of WW II proudly serving in the U.S. Patrol Bombing Squadron 26 of the Navy. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (2 Stars), Combat Aircrewman Insig (3 Stars), Good Conduct Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon (1 Star), American Area Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, and American Theater Campaign. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, baseball, and boxing.
He is survived by one daughter, Patty Kattenbraker and husband Steve of Stiritz; one son William Everly and wife Shirley of Johnston City; four grandchildren, Mike Everly, Karly Kattenbraker, Kelsey Kattenbraker, and Kody Kattenbraker; a great granddaughter, Savannah Paige Everly; and a sister, Mae Hamilton of Walnut Creek, CA.
He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Robbie Everly and Katie Kattenbraker.
