CURTIS HANDEGAN

Curtis Eugene Handegan, 57, of Plano, IL, left this world peacefully to be with our Lord on December 24, 2016 after his brief struggle with cancer.

Curt was born in Herrin, IL on April 3, 1959 to Dolores Hansford Swift and Mortis "Gene" Handegan, and lived in Johnston City, IL until 1962. The family then moved to the Elgin and Carpentersville IL area. He left Dundee Community High School to join the U.S. Army in 1976, and has spent the last 14 years working at MTH Pumps of Plano.

He had a lifelong love of wolves, fishing, Elvis Presley, classic country music, and old Western movies especially those with John Wayne.

He is survived by his mother, Dolores Swift of Benton, KY, sister Gena Handegan Paulding of Taylorville, IL, children James Handegan of Carpentersville, IL, April Handegan of Sabinol, TX, Cody Handegan of Forrest, IL, and Laine Handegan of MN., and 5 grandchildren. Curt was preceded in death by his father Mortis "Gene" Handegan, and son Austin Handegan.

The family will hold a private graveside service with Military Honors at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City, IL on January 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation in Curt's name. Condolences may also be sent to 909 E. Elm St., Taylorville, IL 62568.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, IL and to Lana Mitchell for the compassion and care provided to Curt.
