Johnston City–Dario Flabbi 96 of Johnston City passed away at 10:13 P.M. on Friday December 30, 2011 at his family home..

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday January 6, 2012 at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City with Father Richard Mohr officiating.Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M Friday at the church. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Dario was born May 19, 1915, in Livingston, IL to Urbano and Rosa (Martinatto) Flabbi. He grew up in Johnston City and served as a tank commander in Germany and France during WWII. Upon discharge from the Army, he was involved in a Conservation Corps re-forestation project near Chicago. There, he met Amelia L. Sittner of Chicago and the two were married on Sept. 26, 1946 in Johnston City.

Initially, Dario worked as a clerk at the unemployment office in Marion. Shortly, after the untimely death of his wife on March 31, 1950, he pursued his career as a medical transcriptionist at the V.A. Hospital in Marion until his retirement in 1985. He was an avid fisherman, reader of novels, gardener, Cardinal's fan and enjoyed fitness walking and exploring wilderness areas in Illinois.

He was a deeply religious man who read the Bible, followed the teachings of Christ and practiced his faith at all levels. He was an exceptionally kind and generous person who enjoyed and lived life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by wife, Amelia, his parents and four sisters, Irma Flabbi, Olga Flabbi, and Angeline Bozzola of Johnston City, and Josephine Argenta of Joliet, as well as nephew Henry Argenta and wife, Loretta, of Joliet.

He is survived by nephews, Jim Bozzola and wife, Ethel, of Johnston City, and Dr. John Bozzola of Carbondale; a niece, Rose Frantini, of Joliet; four greatnieces, Angie Shadowens and husband, John, of Marion, Christy Reichert and husband, Wade, of Lake of Egypt, and Judy Frantini and Suzie Argenta of Joliet; greatnephews Darrin Bozzola of Hamilton, Chuck Frantini and wife, Lynn, of Morris, David and Donny Argenta of Joliet.

His family thanks the loving caregivers, Linda and Jessica, as well as supportive friend Mary Ellen Grisley, Dr. Javid and physician's assistant, Gina Gunther and Sister Catherine Wellinghoff of St. Paul's Church.
