DOROTEA CERKVENIK

Johnston City-Dorotea (Dorotoja) Cerkvenik, 89, passed peacefully at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Integrity Healthcare of Marion, Illinois.

Dorotea was born February 6, 1927, to Ivana (Vadnjal) and Joze Cerkvenik.

Before coming to the U.S. Dorotea lived in Vreme, Slovene. In 1951 Dorotea came to the United States to make her home with the Hrovatich family. Most of her life she lived with Frances (Hrovatich) and Alfred Halenz and Albina Hrovatich in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Dorotea began her career in a dress factory where she was a very neat and precise seamtress. Upon her retirement and the death of Frances and Alfred, Dorotea moved to Johnston City with Albina Hrovatich to live surrounded by family and friends.

Filip Cerkvenik of Vreme, Slovene, is the only surviving sibling. In the U.S. Dorotea is survived by the following cousins: Francil Premrl of Knox, Indiana, Mary (Hrovatich) Rinkus of Johnston City, and Katherine (Hrovatich) Novotney of Whiting, Indiana.

Immediate family members that preceded Dorotea's death were: Joze Cerkvenik (brother), Stanko Cerkvenik (brother), Frane Cerkvenik (brother), Ivana Cerkvenik (sister), and Ivan Cerkvenik (brother). In the U.S. Dorotea had cousins who preceded her death: Frances (Hrovatich) and Alfred Halenz, Albina Hrovatich, Frank Hrovatich (Marie), and Matt Hrovatich (Elsa).

The family wants to thank the following individuals for the care provided to Dorotea: Dr. Javad and all the staff at Integrity, Charles Tucker for the transportation to and from appointments, Anita and Ken Richey at the former Country Acres Assisted Living, Dr. David Dickinson and Staff at Southern Illinois Podiatry, Dr. Linda BoBo and Staff at Infectious Disease, and all the kind and helpful services offered by Hospice of Southern Illinois.

A private graveside service will be held with Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, Illinois, in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in West Frankfort, Illinois.
