DOROTHY BROOKS
Johnston City-Going Home to be Together Again. Waiting at the gates of heaven as God has taken her hand and said "Come home My child" was her beloved husband Coy William Brooks from whom she had been separated since his death on October 23, 2002. To greet her also were her parents Ollie and Zadie Wright, her sisters Mary (Littlepage), Louise (Vandiver) and Ruby (Cornell), brothers Ollie Jr. and Billy Wright. Dorothy was the last surviving sibling of her Wright family. Dorothy was born January 3, 1934 near Earlington, KY. She was 81. Dorothy and Coy were married July 4, 1950 in Shawneetown IL and they had two sons, Dennis E. Brooks (Susie) from Mebane, NC and Terry W. Brooks (Angel) from Marion IL. Four grandsons, Mark D. Brooks Snow Camp NC, Adam M. Brooks Mebane NC, Kyle W. Brooks wife Monica and her son Elliot and Beau T. Brooks of St Louis MO. Her grandsons are four of her dearest joys, helping all of them to know the blessing of a Memaw's love. Two beautiful granddaughters Kacie Green(Ben) and Kassidy Mauk of Marion were so loved also. She was blessed with precious September and little Ollie her two great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins that loved her so.
While living in KY, Dorothy worked at Enro shirt factory in Madisonville, and as a Pharmacy Technician at Earlington Drugs in Earlington Kentucky. She is a member of First Baptist Church in Earlington, where she taught Sunday School, was active in WMU and the choir. In 1971 she and Coy moved to Illinois. Dorothy worked at The Fabric Shop in Carbondale and Southern Mold in Johnston City before becoming a dental assistant for Dr. William Lawler, working with him for 18 years in Marion. She has been an active member of First Baptist Church of Johnston City where she is acting church clerk. She loved her church and all her church family both past and present. She sang in the choir for many years and shared Jesus with so many in her quiet soft spoken way.
A special thank you to Dr. Habbouba Salibi of St Luke Hospital, Chesterfield, MO whose clinical knowledge and compassionate care became more than a doctor patient relationship but a friendship for over 30 years
To the Doctors and staff of Carbondale and Herrin Hospitals, and Parkway Manor Bounce Back we thank you for the care she received. We know all of you discovered the kind, gentle, humble spirit of Dorothy as she was in your care.
The family will receive friends at Murman and Wilson funeral home in Johnston City from 5 to 8pm Saturday evening. The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday afternoon at First Baptist Church, Johnston City. Bro. Larry Stevens officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Care and Maintenance Fund of First Baptist Church of Johnston City or the Kare for Kassidy Fund at SI Bank Johnston City.
