DOROTHY HYDEN

Johnston City–Dorothy Hyden 94, of Johnston City, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10:23 A.M. at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born in Johnston City on October 23, 1920, to William Perry Roberts and Augusta (Beal) Roberts. Dorothy was a life-long resident of Johnston City, graduating from Johnston City High School in 1938. She married Luther H. Hyden on January 14, 1944 in the Johnston City Methodist Church, where she remained a faithful member for the next 70 years. Luther preceded her in death in 1982.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was smart and witty, a superb cook and avid reader, and known as a kind and generous friend to all who knew her. Besides being a homemaker, Dorothy worked as a pharmacy assistant at the old Purcell's Drug Store in Johnston City, a bookkeeper, and a librarian at the Johnston City Public Library. Her greatest joy was having her family and friends around her.

Surviving her are her children and their spouses: Jane (Frank) Flynn of Madison, WI, Linda (Mike) Kowalis of Energy and Elaine Hyden (Thomas) Ziglinski of Marion and Perry (Faye) Hyden of Johnston City. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Jennifer Flynn of Sun Prairie, WI, Amy Flynn Quandt and husband Casey of Sun Prairie, WI, and Elizabeth Ziglinski Turner and husband Stephen of Louisville, KY. and great-grandchildren, Emery Turner of Louisville, KY and Tyler Quandt of Sun Prairie, WI. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Betty Murrah of Grayson, GA, Peggy Heath of Johnston City, IL and Connie Lukowski of Munster, IN and brother-in-law, Virgil Hyden of Bethalto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther, her parents, a brother, Malon Roberts, two sisters, Edith Collins and Helen DeBose and three half-sisters, Mamie Wheeler, Erna Hamilton and Blanche Parent.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday December 6, 2014, at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Michael Mayfield officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
