DOROTHY JUNE PIERCE

Johnston City–Dorothy June Pierce 86, of Johnston City passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 5:40 P.M. at her family home.

Services will be held at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 1:00 P.M with Pastor Dan McKinnies officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. till 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born on January 24, 1929 in Lansing, MI the daughter of Everett Veach and Helen Rogers. She was raised by her mother and step-father Harry Murray. She married Henry Floyd Pierce on December 19, 1947 in DuQuoin. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1997.

Dorothy was a homemaker and worked at various jobs including Smoler's Brothers in Herrin. In the early 80's she got her GED and took bookkeeping classes. She then worked for Booth's Transfer as a bookkeeper until she retired in 1986. She was a hard worker and worked with Henry to build three houses. Her greatest joy was the birth of her only grandchild Caitlyn.

In retirement she did some traveling going to Spain, Japan, and Hawaii. She also loved to be outside working in the yard especially in her rock garden.

She will be sadly missed by family and friends and especially her three Chihuahua's, Maddie, Bindi, and Cocoa.

She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Montgomery of Johnston City; one granddaughter, Caitlyn Murphy and husband Wes of Johnston City; two sisters, JoAnn Fulkerson and husband Eugene of DuQuoin, and Betty Thorpe of DuQuoin; one brother, Andrew Murray and wife Brenda of DuQuoin; two sister-in-laws, Maxine Pierce of Merced, CA, and Janet Murray of DuQuoin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward "John" Murray; a nephew, Ronald Fulkerson; son-in-law, Jerry Montgomery; a step-brother, Bob Murray; and a step-sister, Verda Mae Black.
