EARL RAY EBERHARDT

Johnston City-Earl Ray Eberhardt 90 of Johnston City passed away with his wife by his side on Wednesday February 28, 2018 at 3:48 P.M. in Herrin Hospital.

Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday March 3, 2018 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Larry Stevens and Pastor Bill Uhles officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Illinois Army National Guard.

Earl was born on September 7, 1927 in Johnston City the son of Charlie and Myrtie (Dorris) Eberhardt. He married Merlina (Rufieuna) on June 20, 1969. She survives.

Earl Ray worked for over 40 years in Old Ben Coal Mine. He owned a farm and raised hay for his Black Angus cattle. In the summer he enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden. He proudly served in the army. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. for 70 years and the Buccaners Club.

He survived by his wife of 49 years, Melina; brother, Jerry Eberhardt and wife Sue and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Sharknas and husband Joe, and Marjorie Hunter and husband Wallace; and two brothers, Edgar Eberhardt and wife Rachel and Glen Eberhardt and wife Juanita; a brother-in-law, John Refieuna; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emery and Mary Sandefur.
