Obituary

EDWARD "BUNKY" CERNKOVICH

Champaign–Edward "Bunky" Cernkovich 87 of Champaign formerly of Johnston City passed away on Friday February 5, 2010 at 2:25 P.M. at the Carle Hospital of Urbana.

Services will be held on Monday February 8, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City with Rev. Thomas Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City, with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W. and American Legion, and the Illinois Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. conducted by Sr. Catherine Wellinghoff.

Edward was born on June 9, 1922, in Johnston City, the son of John and Lucia (Yurkovic) Cernkovich. He married Mary (Truran) on September 3, 1949 in Johnston City. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2005.

Edward was a retired engineer working for Urban Engineering in Chicago. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Champaign.

He is survived by one son, Bill Caldwell and wife Carole of Champaign; one daughter, Janet Lovejoy and husband Chris of Woodridge; six grandchildren, Gloria Caldwell, Billy Caldwell, Heather Caldwell, Monica Thoresen and husband Andrew, Katie Lovejoy, and Eddie Lovejoy; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
