GEORGE E. HAZEL
Ferges-George E. Hazel 93, of Ferges passed away at 6:10 P.M. on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at his family home.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Gayle Stone officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Illinois Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.
George was born on April 17, 1921 in East Prairie, MO the son of Edward McDonald and Gladys Miriam (Bishop) Hazel. He married Esther L. (Grant) on November 16, 1947 in Johnston City. She survives.
George was a veteran of WWII proudly serving in the Navy in the South Pacific. He was a retired coal miner last working at Freeman #4. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. He loved his family, friends, and to work in his garden. He graduated Johnston City High School class of 1940.
He is survived by 1 daughter, Kimbra Hazel-Lange of Springfield; 1son, Greg Hazel and wife Kim of Rantoul; twin grandsons, Matthew and Christopher Hazel; several nieces and nephews, Mark Hazel, Gail Wilkie, Carol Ansinelli, Margaret Hofman, Rebecca Curry, Dallas Grant, Kathie Brush, and Lana Peck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters, Lucille Mussa, Thelma Wildhaber, Alyne Hazel, Jean Thornton and Reva Marie Hazel; 1 brother, Calvin Hazel; 1 nephew, Joe Wildhaber; and 1 niece, Jane Ellen Thornton.
