GEORGE E. WATKINS

Herrin-George E. Watkins, 77, of Herrin passed away at 1:54 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home surrounded by his children, ex-wife, brothers, and their families.

He was born on March 22, 1936 in Herrin, the son of Harland and Reathel (Finney) Watkins. He married Gloria (Pugh) on July 29, 1961 and moved to Texas, upon there divorce in 1999 George decided to move back to this area to be closer to his children, their families, and his brothers.

George was a body repairman most of his life. He loved to play music, chat on the computer. He was a veteran of Korea proudly serving in the army.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Gloria Watkins of Texas; his children, David Watkins and wife Zita of Coulterville, Jerry Watkins of Christopher, Molly Watson and husband David of Johnston City, and John Watkins and wife Chris of Ellis Grove; several grandchildren, Jennifer Peterson of Energy, Michelle Dover and husband Joey of Zeigler, Joshua Watkins and wife Mallory of Fayetteville, NC, Jeremy Watkins and wife Emmalee of Benton, Johnna Tango and husband Josh of Biloxi, MS, Ceirra Rains and husband Brandon of Chester, Mariah Hubbard of Johnston City, Teresa Watson of Johnston City, Amber Watkins of Ellis Grove, Tonya Watson of Johnston City, Steve Hand and wife Julie of Coulterville, and Joe Hand and wife Carrie of Coulterville; great grandchildren, Tyler Peterson of Energy, Ashlynn Dover of Zeigler, Bryce Dover of Zeigler, CJ Duncan of Energy, Emery Watkins of Fayetteville, NC, Callen Dover of Zeigler, Tyler Hand of Coulterville, Austin Hand of Coulterville, Paige Hand of Coulterville, and Paityn Hand of Coulterville, which he was very proud of and loved each and everyone of you very much; three brothers, Chuck Watkins and wife Judy of Benton, Jim Watkins and wife Kay of West Frankfort, and Dan Watkins and wife Frances of Zeigler; several nieces and nephews that he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shelby Jean Watkins and Esther Perrine; a brother, Henry Watkins; a niece, Sharon Lewis; and a nephew, Malcolm Watkins.

Due to George's request he will be cremated. His interment will be at a later date at the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery at Lick Creek next to Shelby Jean.
