GLEN LEO BANDY

GLEN LEO BANDY, 95, of Johnston City, passed away at home on June 1, 2013. He was born November 7, 1917, near Herrin, the son of Troy and Nathalee (Spiller) Bandy. After attending Fudgetown and Centerville Schools, Glen married Mary Evelyn Pledger on May 26, 1940, in Jackson, Missouri. Glen was a humble, hard-working and devoted husband, father, and beloved grandfather.

A native of Southern Illinois, Glen began his career as a petroleum truck driver with the local FS Services. He served in the Army during WWII and again overseas during the Korean conflict, rising to the rank of Corporal.

After his honorable discharge in 1951, Glen returned to civilian life. He continued his employment with FS Services, assuming increasing responsibilities in operations and management at their facilities throughout the state. This included relocation to Louisville, IL as General Manager of Clay County FS and Belvidere, IL as General Manager of the Boone County FS Services, and later to Woodstock as Operations Manager with McHenry County FS.

Glen and Evelyn were also valuable contributors to both church and civic organizations, regularly attending Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement, they were members of the First United Methodist Church of Belvidere, where he served on the Board of Directors for many years including a term as president. After moving to Woodstock, Illinois, he continued his church activities at First United Methodist Church, serving on the Board there as well. Glen was an active member of the Belvidere Rotary Club, where he held leadership positions in that organization. Glen was also a life member of Lake Creek Masonic Lodge 729 and a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Freeport.

Glen and Evelyn retired to their original roots in Marion, Illinois, in 1983, enjoying a very active lifestyle with friends and family, travel, fishing, attending auctions and most of all gardening. Glen was locally known for his prolific vegetable garden and his gardening expertise was sought by family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Virginia Bandy (Lynn Marsh) of Hurricane, Utah, and Cher (Thom) Pollock of Danville, Illinois; son, Dale (Nancy) of Mission Viejo, California; grandchildren Rebecca (Mitch) Bringhurst of Hurricane, Utah, and Zachary (Kathleen) Austin of Schaumburg, Illinois; eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife and parents; sisters, Retha Oliver and Pauline Niehus; brother Charles Donal, and infants Wanda, Ladell and Clarence Ray Bandy. Services will be held at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rick Pierce officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and the Illinois Army National Guard. Masonic rites will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday conducted by the Lake Creek Masonic Lodge #729.
