HELEN V. "QUEENIE" KARPUS
Johnston City-Helen V. "Queenie" Karpus 87 of Johnston City passed away on Wednesday February 1, 2012 at 8:15 A.M. at the Parkway Manor in Marion.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday February 4, 2012 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Ted Hartley officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the First United Methodist Church of Johnston City. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Queenie was born on January 16, 1925 in Johnston City the daughter of George and Eliza Jane (Dangerfield) Hope. She married Arthur Karpus on June 1, 1946 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1998.
She retired in 1992 as the Executive Secretary of National Fiber Supply Company in Chicago. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Johnston City.
She is survived by seven nephews, George Smith and wife Mary Lou of Wabash, IN, Robert Smith of O'Fallon, MO, Dick Smith and wife Bunny of Cape Girardeau, MO, Jack Smith and wife Susan of St. Louis, MO, James Hope of Marion, Bob Hope and wife Sallye of Marion, and Terry Hope and wife Sandy of Festus, MO; two nieces, Jane Ann Kenner and husband John of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Catherine Hope of Johnston City; several great nieces and great nephews; and several great-great, nieces and great-great, nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Ted Hope, Tom Hope, Jim Hope, George Hope, and John Thomas Hope; and three sisters, Hannah Smith, Dorothy Hope, and Ester Jane Hope.
