HENRY MARTIN "TINEY" NIX JR.
Carbondale-Henry Martin "Tiney" Martin Nix Jr. 74 of Carbondale passed away on Thursday April 26, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Herrin Hospital.
Services will be held on Monday April 30, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Barry Robertson and Rev. Ray Ainslie officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W, American Legion and Illinois Army National Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday April 29, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Washington Avenue Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Henry was born on April 5, 1938 in East St. Louis the son of Henry Martin Sr. and Carmen (Still) Nix. He married Janice (Moake) on May 27, 1971 in Johnston City she survives.
Henry was a building service worker at SIU-C and a veteran of the Army. He was a member of the Herrin JayCees and was the thirteenth member of the Illinois JayCee Hall of Fame. Henry was a past state president and lifetime member of the Illinois J.C.I. Senate. He was a member of the Washington Avenue Baptist Church of Johnston City.
He is survived by one brother-in-law, Steven Moake and wife Melanie of Cave-in-Rock; three nieces, Beverly Lovatto, Barbara McHugh, and Cheri Wagers; one nephew, Michael Nix; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, William Maurice and Norma Nix; a sister, Linda Sue Henson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Jane Moake.
