WILLIAM JACK BARRA

Marion–William Jack Barra, 77 passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 1:50 P.M. at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday April 19, 2018, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Minister Bill Brandstetter officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M to 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Jack Barra Memorial Tractor Pull. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jack was born on November 11, 1940, in Johnston City, the son of Joseph M. and Helen Tennie (Armes) Barra. He married Sandra (Minton) on June 1, 1963, she survives.

Jack attended Johnston City High School. He was a member of Marion Church of Christ. He was a past member of Williamson County Fair Board. He was an avid tractor puller in state and out state. He was a past member of several tractor pullers associations including the ITPA. He was self-employed mechanic known in Southern Illinois for outstanding work on tractors.

He is survived by a daughter, Laura Beth Bishop and husband Rodney; grandchildren, Bryce Michael and Brockton Matthew; a sister, Rosalie Spooner; a niece, Cindy McCree; a nephew, Rick Barra; sister-in-law, Mildred Hill; brother-in-law, Jimmie Minton and wife Lou Eva; nephews Joe Hill and wife Kathy, Dan Hill and wife Sheryl, Mike Hill and wife Laura, and Eddie Minton; several grand nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Tom.
