JACK L. CARTER

Johnston City-Jack L. Carter, 74, of Johnston City passed away on Thursday May 31, 2018, at 6:39 A.M. at the Herrin Hospital.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday June 7, 2018, in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with Pastor Ron Knox officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W. and American Legion. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements...

Jack was born in Gary, IN on October 12, 1943 to Lawrence and Ruby Little. At 6 months he was relocated to Johnston City and was raised by Jesse and Leota Carter. He married Jo Lynn Giles of West Frankfort and they had a daughter Tyra Lynn and granddaughter Kara Jo.

Jack was in the navy and served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. He was an underground coal miner and was still employed by Aisin when he became ill.

He is survived by a brother, Richard Carter; two nephews, Tom and Tim Carter; a niece, Gayla Martini; and  several other nieces and nephews; brothers, Jerry and Andy Conkovich and Frank Little; special cousins, Gloria Farmer and Janeann Wall.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Little; and a sister, Rosemary Frisco.
