Obituary

Reverend James "Jim" Ferrell, 74, formerly of LeRoy, left this world to rest high on the mountain with the Lord on May 22, 2020 after battling a long illness. His devotion to his family and steadfast belief in God supported him through his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Jim was born to Hattie Jewel Brown, and James "June" Ferrell on September 4, 1945 in Bloomington IL. Jim married Sue Pendley on October 7, 1966 in LeRoy IL. Jim was bless with 3 children and a large extended family. Jim spent his life being a generous and loving caregiver to his siblings, wife, children and those under his pastoral care. He was a proud grandfather of 6; Kara Leftwich Carbondale IL, Teah Reick Ursa IL, Samuel Leftwich Carbondale IL, Kendra Leftwich Carbondale IL, Mitchil Knight-Wilson Jackson TN, Kristen Leftwich Carbondale, great-grandfather of 2; Bentleih and Kaydence, and loved his four legged companion Dapple. Jim attended LeRoy High School and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He retired as a bi-vocational pastor from First Baptist Church LeRoy IL in 2013, and Poindexter's IGA in Heyworth IL as the meat department manager in 2011, where his loving heart and faith in his Savior could be seen daily in his actions. Jim is survived by his wife Sue; his children Jamie (Darryl) Leftwich Carbondale IL, Jef Ferrell Little Rock AR, Jeri Ferrell Carbondale IL and 11 siblings; Robert (Kay) Ferrell West Frankford IL, Ann (Jim) Malcom LeRoy IL, Danny (Leola) Ferrell El Paso IL, John (Deb) Pontiac IL, Judy Jocelyn LeRoy IL, Karen Wahls LeRoy IL, Vicky Ferrell Bloomington IL, James Ferrell Bloomington IL, Julie Farrell Shirley IL, Debbie (Bill) Lowery Normal IL, Keith Farrell Shirley IL and 1 brother-in-law Robert Hafley LeRoy IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings; Rusty Cook, Sue Hafley and Cindy Brown all of LeRoy IL. No services have been scheduled at this time, however the family will be receiving local friends and visitors at the home in Herrin on Wednesday the 27th from 2-5. A celebration of life will be held in LeRoy IL at a later date.
