JAMES CASWELL SHUBERT

Johnston City-James Caswell Shubert, 92, of Johnston City passed away at 2:10 P.M. on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Marion.

Services will be at 11 A.M. on Tuesday April 5, 2011, at the First Christian Church of Johnston City with Pastor Lee Petty officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with graveside military rites conducted by Marion VFW, American Legion and Illinois Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Masonic Rites at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.

James was born on January, 21, 1919 in Mt. Vernon, IN. the son of William Thomas and Elma Melissa (Kirkendall) Shubert. He married Golda Spees on July 15, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, MO. She preceded him in death on October 7, 1991.

He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a retired coal miner. He was a Past Master for the Lake Creek Masonic Lodge #729 in Johnston City. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Johnston City.

He is survived by one son, William Shubert and wife Linda of Johnston City, and four daughters, Barbara Roach of Johnston City, Jamesa Cay Bowers of Herrin, Trinka Altenberger and husband Chris of Herrin, Kathy Johnson and husband David of Bartlett TN, a daughter-in-law Evelena Davis of Waskom TX, twenty-seven grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, twenty-four great-great grandchildren, and one sister, Wilma Harris of Johnston City and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Hester Dale Davis, two grandsons, Steven Darren Davis and Derrick Lee Hammonds, one great granddaughter, Angel Cheyenne Tibbs, five sisters; Surilda , Eva, Melba, Margaret , Naomi Fay, and two brothers, Raymond and Marion Earl.
