JAMES L. SIMMONS JR.

Johnston City-James L. Simmons Jr. 76 of Johnston City passed away on Friday July 27, 2018 at 2:18 P.M. as a result of an automobile accident.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday August 2, 2018 at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Earl Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Marion.

James was born on December 7, 1941 in Chicago the son of James Leon and Mary Winifred (McMullen) Simmons.

He was a retired self-employed truck driver.

He is survived by three daughters, Melinda Simmons of Johnston City, Cheryl Porter of O'Fallon, MO, Kim Mackey of Nortonville, KY; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two step-children, Bill Barra and Terri Kimbro; two brothers, Greg Simmons and wife Janice of Creal Springs, John Martin Simmons of Colp; three sisters, Sarah Hale of Colp, Becky Samples of Collinsville, Janet Dawes and husband Jim of Libertyville, TX; his loving girlfriend, Nancy Barger of Marion; his little buddy, Harley his dog; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen Jeanette Simmons; his son, James Bryan Simmons; and step-daughter, Debbie Shore.

He will be sadly missed by many friends and family.
