JAMES "JAY" WILLIAM McNEILL

Ferges- James "Jay" McNeill of Ferges passed away on Saturday March 6, 2021 at 6:29 P.M. at home. He was born on June 8, 1940 in Ferges, the son of Harry McNeill and Lola (Spiller) McNeill.

He was a coal miner for 40 years. He loved to fish, hunt, camp, travel, walk, and dance. He married his first love Carlene on February 9, 1962. They were married for 43 years. She preceded him in death. He had many friends and was always willing to help anyone who asked. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1961.

He is survived by two daughters; Tammy Fitzjerrells and husband Randy of Bonnie, Debbie Rasor of Ferges; grandchildren Heather Couty and husband Tyler of North Carolina, Ashley Caliper and Travis Caliper of Herrin, Josh Payne of Ferges, Dusty Fitzjerrells of Bonnie, and Landon Caliper; great grandchildren Mariah Hall, James Boyt, Paisley Conner, Emerson Caliper, Jaxson Caliper, and Carter Couty; a brother John McNeill and Marsha of Marion; two sisters Linda Barrick of Louisiana and Peggy Pedigo of Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

He is Preceded in death by His parents; Harry and Lola McNeill; brothers Ray McNeill and Jack McNeill; Sisters Betty Bishop, Mary Pedigo, and Shirley Frey; a grandson Bradley Boyt; his girlfriend Nancy Cutsinger.

A service will be held Friday March 12, 2021 at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Visitation will be 10 A.M. to 12 Noon with services starting at 12 Noon with Pastor Donnie Colson Officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Navy Ritual Team and the Marion VFW and American Legion.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Judes or the Marion VFW and American Legion Ritual Team.

A Celebration of life will be held after the services at Hoot-N-Holler in Benton.
