JERRY E. OWENS

Herrin–Jerry E. Owens 78, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. at home.

Services will be held at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City on Saturday September 18, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Danny Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery of Marion. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon till 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW and American Legion.

Jerry was born on February 13, 1943 in West Frankfort the son of Albert and Edna (Hardin) Owens. He married Sharon F. (McIntosh) Owens on December 7, 1961. She survives.

Jerry was a retired minister for the First Church of God of Anderson, IN. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale and received a B.S. in education; also attended Gulf Coast Bible College receiving a certificate in Pastoral Ministry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and was an outdoor person.

He is survived by a daughter; Melanie Gilliland (John), four grandchildren; Emily Cole, Grace Cole, Jacob Cole, and Audrey Gilliland all Columbus Ohio, a son; Timothy Owens of Indianapolis Indiana, and a sister; Glenda Null of West Frankfort.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Albert Owens and Edna (Hardin), brothers; Albert Owens and Kenneth Owens, sisters; Donna Kay and Melba Billingsley.
