JESSE MURPHY

Johnston City–Jesse Murphy, 85 of Johnston City passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 4:10 A.M. at his family home.

Services will be held at All Nations Church of God in Marion on Monday May 17, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor John Murphy and Pastor Bruce Fox officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W and American Legion and the Illinois Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Sunday May 16, 2010 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City and from 12:00 noon to 1:00 P.M. Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or church.

Jesse was born on April 12, 1925 in Marion, the son of Troy and Gazelle (Parks) Murphy. He was married to Marjorie (Malone) on September 26, 1942. She preceded him in death on January 19, 1986.

Jesse was a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a veteran of WWII proudly serving in the army. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and a member of the All Nations Church of God of Marion.

He is survived by three daughters, Connie Wall and husband Virgil of Pinckneyville, Elaine Lee of Johnston City, and Glenetta Kirkpatrick and husband Randy of Johnston City; three sons, John Murphy and wife Juanita of Nason, Terry Murphy and wife Ruth of Eldorado, and Steve Murphy and wife Lisa of Johnston City; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Murphy of Marion, and Bob Murphy of Marion; one sister, Shirley Kelton and husband Kenneth of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jesse Murphy Jr. and David Murphy; one grandson, Michael Wayne Murphy; two sisters, Mabel Ailene Powell and Sue Summers; and three brothers, Jim Murphy, Bill Murphy, and "Shorty" Murphy.
