JIM HARVEL

Marion-Jim Harvel 83 formerly of Johnston City and Carterville passed away at 3:53 P.M. Thursday November 16 2023 at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday November 21, 2023, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Steve Higgs and Pastor Glenn Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with Graveside military rites by the Marion V.F.F. American Legion and the U.S. Marine Military Honors Team. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Envelopes will be at the funeral home

He was born on May 6, 1940 in Carterville the son of Dale and Elizabeth (Lezu) Harvel. He married Barbara Sue (Craig) on February 6, 1962, she survives.

He graduated with the class of 1958 from Carterville.

Jim was a 50+ years member of Local #551 Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was also a member of the Marion V.F.W. Post 1301 and American Legion of Marion.

He proudly served in the U.S.M.C. from 1958 to 1962, after being extended in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Jim was a member of the Johnston City Christian Church for over 50 years, having served as Elder, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Jim is survived by two sons, Ron Harvel of Orient and Mike Harvel and wife Mindy of Pittsburg; 4 grandsons, Brett, Blaine, Trevor, and Nick; 1 granddaughter, Makenna Myers; 2 sisters-in-law, Francis "Frani" Harvel and Linda Harvel; two brothers, Dale Dean Harvel and wife Betty of Seminary, Mississippi and Bruce Harvel and wife Lisa of Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George Harvel and Ernie Harvel.
