JIMMY EUGENE HAYES
Johnston City-Jimmy Eugene Hayes, age 74, fought his last battle with cancer on October 9, 2016.
He was born in Pittsburg on August 6th, 1942 to Johnnie and Jessie (Edwards) Hayes.
Surviving is a daughter; Paula Kay Hayes, Wife Renee; her children, Ricky Spiller, Jerri Stritzel of Johnston City, Susan (Spiller) Romani and husband Victor of Benton; brother, Bobby Hayes and wife Judy of Johnston City; sister, Sarah Bennett and husband Donald of Thompsonville; Grand Children, Gage Romani, Courtney Stritzel, Gavin Stritzel, and Mya Debow, Bobby Dean Hayes Jr., Calab Harrison Hayes ; a niece, Melissa D. Hayes and husband Adam of Pittsburg; nephews, Johnny Hayes and wife Becky of Zeigler, Bobby D. Hayes of Johnston City, Larry Hayes and wife Stacy of West Frankfort, Chip Hayes of West Frankfort, and John D. Smith; cousins, Gabriel Hayes Ashby, Adam Blake Ashby II, Bobby D. Hayes Jr., Zack Hayes, and Caleb H. Hayes.
He was employed for several years by UMWA Construction. He retired, working at the J&J Ranch in Johnston City. He was an avid pool player, playing guitar, and fishing.
He leaves behind many friends who have gone before him.
A Special thanks to his caregiver and "Friendly Friend" Rosie and her children Catt Serrett, Jimmy and Sherry Blevins, Rebecca and John Sills. Two Little kids who called him PaPa Jimmy – Ember Thomas and Desmond Haught. Also thanks to Shelly Thomas and Erin Haught who visited and provided moral support.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie (Edward) Hayes; Father, Johnnie Hayes; brothers, John Edward and Danny Hayes; granddaughter, Jaqueline Nichole Spiller; and his "lucky dog".
Visitation will be at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City on Wednesday October 12, from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Thursday October 13. Burial will be in the #8 Cemetery, East of Johnston City.
A celebration of Jimmy's life will be from 2pm till ? after services at J&J Ranch in Johnston City. Lunch will be served.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be provided at the Funeral Home.
