JOE SHETTERS
Johnston City -Joe Shetters, 74, of Johnston City, IL, passed away at 5:44 a.m. on December 19, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home.
Born May 18, 1939, in Sherwood, TN, Joe was the son of Russell Lee and Audie Ellen (Smith) Shetters.
He owned his own concrete business, belonged to the Laborers Union Local 638, and spent many years building hotels across the country with Brewer Construction. He was very proud of working on the Olmsted Dam. Joe became a member of the Buccaneer's Club in 1975. He was also a member of the Marion Eagles. Joe was an avid golfer, loved to shoot pool and was a loyal Detroit Lions fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife, Saundra Sue Shetters, and five children, Wanda and husband, Jon James of Johnston City, IL; Shanna and husband, Bill Hartley, of Johnston City, IL; Tonia and husband, Paul Johnson of Marion, IL; Matthew Shetters and wife, Kathy, of Stevenson, AL; and Shelia Shetters of South Pittsburg, TN; twelve grandchildren, Trey Johnson, Cooper James, Peyton Johnson, Connor Hartley, Victoria Grider, Nicole Johnson, Randy Grider, Sierra Holder, Cody Holder, John "J.P." Gillespie Justin Shetters and wife, Veronica; one great-grandchild, Ethan Shetters; one brother, Russell Lee Shetters; one sister, Peggy Pendergrass and husband, Leon; two brother-in-laws, Steve Cobb and Kelly Lewis, and John Adams and wife, Tracey; one sister-in-law, Donna Simons and husband, Ed; special niece, Tracey Harrison, and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Joe Shetters, Jr., daughter, Ida Shetters, three sisters, Annie Miller, Mary Jane Shetters, Betty Carol Shetters, and two brothers, William Shetters and Jimmy Dean Shetters.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Donnie Travelstead officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.
