JOE WENDELL WILLIAMS

Johnston City–Joe Wendell Williams 72, of Benton passed away at 2:26 P.M. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday July 27, 2013, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M to 12:00 noon Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and the Illinois Army National Guard.

Joe was born on May 17, 1941, in Pittsburg, the son of Joe Burl and Louise (Burgess) Williams. He married Marjorie (Richey) who preceded him in death.

Joe was a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Pittsburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam conflict from 1961 to 1965.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by three children, Michael Tyrone Williams of Pittsburg, Marcy Hammonds and husband Bradley of Marion, and Matthew Williams and wife Ashley of Marion; nine grandchildren, Kiffany, Timothy, Shaynee, Rylee, Quentin, Matthew Jr., Austin, Noah, and Isaiah; three great grandchildren, Alexzavior, Xzadin, and Xzavia; one sister, Peggy Williams of Pittsburg; one brother, Jerry Williams of Gerald, MO; and a dear friend, Sharon Cottonaro of Pittsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Billy Williams; and a great grandson, Malachi.
