JOHN CLIFFORD MORGAN Johnston City–John Clifford Morgan, 77 of Johnston City passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 10:25 P.M. at the Herrin Hospital. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 17947 Route 37, West Frankfort. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with military rites conducted by the Benton V.F.W., American Legion and the Marine Burial Honors Team. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. John was born on December 17, 1941 in Ava. He was the son of John Benjamin and Zella Belle (Ferguson) Morgan. He married Patricia (Coonce) on February 27, 1984 in Christopher. She survives. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 17 years rising to the rank of Staff Sgt. before retiring and serving 2 tours during the Vietnam Conflict. He also worked as a coal miner as well as a gold miner. He was an avid fisherman and was the Toys for Tots Coordinator in Southern Illinois for the past 14 years. He was a long time member and officer of the Marine Corps League Shawnee Detachment #812. He was a MCL department of Illinois Officer. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion of Benton. John is survived by 3 children, John Barnes and wife of Greenville; Sylgrida Douberley and husband David of St. George, UT, Tyler Morgan and wife Heather of Johnston City; step-son, David Chwarczinski of Christopher; 10 grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Morgan of DuQuoin; 5 nieces, Karla Morgan of Murphysboro, Zella Jean Morgan of DuQuoin, Roberta Ringstaff of Kevil, KY, Cindy Morgan of Ledbetter, KY, Donna Wynn of Ledbetter, KY; many other nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many Marine Corps League brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, William "Greasy" Carl Morgan, Donald Lloyd Morgan, Lester Dwight Morgan, and Floyd Morgan; and a sister, Dorothy Queen.
