JOHN T. REFIEUNA
Johnston City–John T. Refieuna 84, of Johnston City passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 6:15 P.M. at the Herrin Hospital.
According to his wishes there will be a graveside service at the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City at 2:00 P.M. Sunday October 31, 2010 with Sr. Catherine Wellinghoff officiating. There will be no visitation, family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
John was born on April 27, 1926 in Dowell the son of Domenick and Mary (Giacomelli) Refieuna. He was married to Jean (Hockenberry) who preceded him in death.
He graduated from Johnston City High School in 1943. He attended the University of Illinois earning a degree in mining engineering. He worked for Orient Coal Company at Orient II Mine and designed the Waltonville Mine and then worked there. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was an avid ballroom dancer with his partner Mary. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He is survived by a son, Jay Refieuna and wife Jamie of La Grange; two daughters, Jamie Schneider and husband Paul of Kent, WA, and Laurie Endsley of Clinton, MA; grandchildren, Jeffery, Jason, Cam, Corie, Cira, and Lisa; sister, Merlina Eberhardt and husband Ray of Johnston City; and special friend, Mary Coloni of Herrin..
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Emery Sandefur; and his wife.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church. of Johnston City. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
