JOSEPH ABBA
Johnston City-Joseph Abba, 84, of Johnston City, passed away at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday February 20, 2018 at Herrin Hospital.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday February 24, 2018, at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W., American Legion, and Navy Burial Honors Team. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City.
Joseph was born on September 2, 1933 in Stiritz, the son of Louis and Joanna (Gastaldi) Abba. He married Adrianna (Borchelt) on September 3, 1960 in Johnston City.
Joseph retired as grounds foreman for SIU. Joseph was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church of Johnston City and a member of the Johnston City Knights of Columbus. He proudly served in the navy during the Korean War. He had served as an alderman in Johnston City for many years.
He is survived by his wife of Johnston City; one daughter Tina Kosco and husband Jim of Johnston City; a son Steven Abba of Springfield; grandchildren, Rebekah and Zack; a brother, John Charles Abba of Stiritz; a sister-in-law Lena Abba of Herrin; nieces and nephews, Camy Clark and husband Mike, Mike Abba and wife Kristy, Louis Abba and Gwen, Kenneth Borchelt and Danette, Kim Murray and Mike; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Angelo Abba; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil H. and Catherine Borchelt; and a brother-in-law, Virgil W. Borchelt.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
