Kathy Jan Snedden was born in Marion, Illinois on February 21, 1957. She was born to John, known to most as JR, and Joyce Snedden, who proceeded Kathy in death. Kathy and her twin sister, Karen, were born in the middle of 4 other sisters, Marsha, Debbie (Freako), Donna, and Mary. Yep, JR and Joyce had six girls and no boys…poor JR. Kathy's life was cut short on November 13, 2024; she had one of the softest airways her pulmonologist had ever seen, and this was likely caused by the fact that she was developmentally disabled, and this ultimately lead to her death. Kathy's disability didn't stop her, though. Kathy graduated from Christopher High School in 1978, and she was involved in the Special Olympics. She had fun teasing and tormenting all of her sisters, but who doesn't. She went to Franklin-Williamson County Workshop; according to Kathy, she was "kicked out" for being ornery with the other attendees, but that was Kathy. Kathy loved babies and doggies. The family had a chunky Chihuahua named Koko; after him, every dog was Koko to Kathy, so he must have made a big impression on her. Kathy also called most women Mary, so Mary must have been her favorite sister! Towards the end of her life, Kathy lived at Manor Court of Carbondale, where she shared a room with her twin. Kathy was loved by everyone at Manor Court, as she was constantly laughing and smiling and showing love and compassion to those around her. She was a staple in the Activity Room at Manor Court, and we know it will be a little quieter in there in Kathy's absence. Kathy received wonderful care in the ICU at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, and the family would like to thank them and the staff of Manor Court for the impeccable care they provided to Kathy. In addition to her sisters, Kathy also leaves behind nieces, Christine (Mary), Kellie (Skayhead), Sarah, and Markeya and nephews, Samuel (Sarah Michelle), Seth, and Cody. She also leaves behind great nephews, Gavin and Colton and a great niece, Skylar. Kathy also had wonderful brothers-in-law in Poley and Steven. As you can see, there are many people grieving for the loss of Kathy, but we're also able to reminisce on all of the good times we had with her. There will not be a traditional funeral; instead, the family will be having a private gathering to remember her. Kathy's life should serve as a reminder to all that no matter the obstacle, we can all smile and show love and compassion to one another. The names in parentheses are the names Kathy called us.
