KENNETH GENE UPCHURCH
Johnston City–Kenneth Gene Upchurch 81, of Johnston City went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 6:26 P.M. at his residence. He went in peace.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday April 5, 2010 at the Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy with Rev Jerry Schell officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Monday at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W. and American Legion and the Illinois Army National Guard. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
His daughter request that memorials be made to a local shelter or food bank in memory of her father. Envelopes will be available at the church.
He was born on March 25, 1929 in Herrin the son of Walter and Ethel (Casey) Upchurch. He was the sixth child.
He is survived by one daughter, Virginia "Ginger" Christley of Millvale, PA; a step-daughter, Dana Baltzell of Marion; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia "Ginny" Rossin and husband Bob of Herrin; and one brother, Walter Upchurch and wife Marie of Herrin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; and his wife Wanda (Phelps) Upchurch.
He proudly served in both the Army and the Air Force. He was a life member of the Marion V.F.W. Post 1301. He was an active member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church.
