Leah Jean Burgess
Johnston City – Leah Jean Burgess, 87, of Johnston City peacefully passed away at 9:19 A.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at her family home.
Leah was born October 16, 1931, in Marion, the daughter of Eugene and Flossie (Conley) Adams.
She married Delmar "Gene" Burgess on April 28, 1950, in Marion. He preceded her in death December 20, 2009.
She was a retired telephone operator, working for many years in Marion. She was of Baptist faith.
She is survived by one son, Steven Burgess of Johnston City; five grandchildren, Kelly Caudill and husband, John of Carterville, Amy Burgess of Johnston City , Wesley Burgess and wife, Becky of St. Louis, MO , Bethany Taylor and husband, Aaron of Murphysboro, and Joseph Burgess of Chicago; five great grandchildren, Lillian Judd, Shane Caudill, Karson Caudill, Aubree Taylor and Heath Taylor; sisters, Flodene Henson of Carterville and Dianna Almaroad of Grapevine, Texas; brother, Danny Adams of Marion and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Barry Burgess, daughter-in-law, Linda Burgess, sisters, Treciah Weiss and Virginia Garavalia; and brother, Harris Adams.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, November 27, 2018, in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City with Pastor Larry Stevens officiating. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the service.
