LEO E. JONES
Johnston City-Leo E. Jones 84 passed away at 4:49 P.M. Monday September 16, 2024 at the Shawnee Senior Living Center in Herrin.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday September 20, 2024 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Larry Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Becker Cemetery east of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Leo was born on July 30, 1940 in Herrin the son of Leo Sr. and Glenna (Corbit) Jones. He married Marsha (Payne) on October 27, 1962 in Johnston City who survives. Together they enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage. They enjoyed their daily walks together.
Leo worked at Universal Match in Herrin, Blunt Brothers Construction in Marion where he made plans for the Marion Prison, Air Tech Products in Fairfield, Container Stapling, and the Vienna Correction Center as a drafting instructor for 25 years. In retirement he worked for West Frankfort High School as a drafting instructor. He graduated S.I.U. in 1964 with a bachelor's degree. He graduated from J.C.H.S. in 1958. Leo liked to fish and hunt. He had a close friend, Dick Smith who was his hunting companion and coworker for many decades. He was an avid Ram's and Cardinal's fan. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, football, and track. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends. Leo was a member of the First Baptist Church in Johnston City. He was a trustee for many years.
Leo is survived by 3 children, Richard Jones and wife Cheryl of Karnak, Lisa Moore and husband Greg of Johnston City, and Marlena Wright and husband Scott of Anna; 9 grandchildren, Aaron Jones and wife Natalie, Adam Jones and wife Emmalea, Bryce Wright and wife Kaylee, Brandon Wright, Meranda Wright, Christopher Wright, Alexander Wright, Dylan Moore and wife Brittany, and Abigail Barter and husband Craig; 4 great grandchildren, Elijah Moore, Braxton and Adeline Jones, Silas Wright, and one more on the way, Baby Barter; 7 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Geneva Davis and husband Carl, Evelyn Jones and husband Claude, and Elizabeth Farrar and husband Hallet; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Troy and Geneive Payne; sister-in-law, Beverly Gaddis and husband Kenneth
