MARGARET "PEGGY" ANN SMALL

Margaret 'Peggy" Ann Small, born Margaret Ann Wilson in Johnston City Illinois to William Henry and Beulah Mae Wilson on January 3, 1933, passed away on September 18 ^th , 2022, at Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale Illinois.  Peggy attended Johnston City schools, graduating first in both her grades school and high school classes.  She worked at the local electrical company for approximately two years, and then enrolled at SIU Carbondale, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1956 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.  She later received her Master's in Education from Illinois State University in 1972.

Peggy was passionate about teaching, spending 40 years of her life sharing with students in the Illinois Public Schools.  She taught High School English and History at schools in Joppa, Johnston City, Canton, Athens, Barry, LeRoy, Elkhart, and Farmer City where she retired from teaching.  She also was part of the Adjunct Faculty at Heartland Community College.  Over the years she also held jobs at the U.S. Census Bureau, Insurance Offices, the Illinois Board of Higher Education and SIU School of Medicine.

While Peggy's passion was teaching, her Heart was for Jesus and sharing His love for others.  This is obvious to those who she called Family & Friends.  Peggy was a devoted and constant presence in her children's lives; daughter, Lissa and her son, Mark (Jamie – her bonus daughter), and her loving Grandchildren, Christopher, Bruce, Douglas (Amanda) & Taylor, along with five great grandchildren, Chloe, Camryn, Ainsley, Parker & Colton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Jean Alice. She is survived by her brother William "Bill" Wilson and his wife Yvonne; along with their children Elizabeth (Brian – Connor & Ian) & Andrew (Amy – Alexis, Adelynn, Andi & Austin).

As she told her students…"If I ain't talking, then I ain't living…" Quiet at last…. Well done, good and faithful servant… well done.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
