MARIETTA "MARY" BIRD

Johnston City–Mrs. Marietta "Mary" Bird 65, of Cadiz, KY passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 4:33 A.M. in Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

Services will be held at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 12:30 P.M. with Pastor Larry Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the #8 Cemetery east of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. till 12:30 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born on May 8, 1959 in Chicago to Lorna Joan Brown and Johnny Beaver.

Mary grew up in Johnston City where she attended grade school and was a graduate of the Johnston City High School Class of 1977.

She was married to Archie Bird of Herrin on November 10, 1984 in Johnston City.

She worked at Mattingly Nursing Home in Herin as a dedicated nurse's aide, caring for patients. Archie's career in the U.S. Navy took them to Jacksonville, Florida where they resided for many years. They became parents to two children while living in Florida, Brittany and Quentin. Upon Archie's retirement from the military, they moved to Cadiz, Kentucky, where they raised their children and became grandparents to four grandchildren, Heaven, A'reonna, Ty Shawn and Jaylin Quarles. They were all the love of Mary and Archies lives. Mary and Archie were very active in raising not only their children but their grandchildren. She loved having them all around her and they adored her in return.

Mary has suffered bad health for the last several years and fought hard to stay active in the life of Archie and her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves a legacy of love and will be remembered with love by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Archie who was the love of her life; both her children; four grandchildren; many cousins and friends. Mary was a dog lover and leaves behind three dogs.
