MARILYN KAY MAREK
Johnston City-Marilyn Kay Marek of Johnston City passed peacefully on Saturday afternoon, August 8, 2015 in the care of hospice at the age of 83. She was born April 21, 1933 in Cook Co. Illinois and was the daughter of Frank Adolph and Emily Rose Rys (Bocinsky) and the sister of Raymond (Wanda) of Wisconsin and Audrey McQueen (dec.). She is survived by her loving husband Raymond Marek (28 years) of Johnston City. She was the proud mother of James (Cindy) Valtman Jr., Deborah Valtman, Michael Valtman (dec.), Mary Anderson, Timothy (Georgette) Valtman, Nancy (Douglas) Swanson, Judy Valtman, Joseph (Carrie) Valtman, John (Sue) Valtman, Donna (John) Novotny. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Following the birth of her children Marilyn put herself through nursing school and retired from a rewarding career of nursing at West Suburban TB Hospital. Marilyn was an avid reader, quilter, former officer of finance for the Auxiliary of the Marion VFW Post 1301 and devout and active Catholic. Up to the very end Marilyn attended and served daily mass at St. Paul Parish in Johnston City. However, she will be best remembered for her tremendous inner strength and love of helping others.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday August 15, 2015, at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City with Fr. Richard Mohr officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City.
In lieu of flowers Marilyn's wish would be for a donation to either Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the VFW Women's Auxiliary, Post 1301.
