MARY HELEN COOPER

Johnston City–Mary Helen Cooper 74, of Thompsonville passed away at 10:07 P.M. on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at the Herrin Hospital.

Mary was born on February 4, 1940 in Joliet the daughter of Gerald and Maybelle (Lutes) Landry. She married Richard Riley Cooper Sr. on June 29, 1957 in Belleville. They shared 35 years together.

Mary retired 22 years ago. Mary loved her farm and animals especially her dog Sadie. She loved gardening, sewing, and being with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Galatia United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, Chris Cooper and wife Jackie, Mike Cooper and wife Anita, John Cooper Sr. and wife Judy, Joel Cooper, Richard Cooper Jr., Laura Hunt and husband Donnie; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Memorials may be made to World Wildlife Fund or to Catholic Charities.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Galatia United Methodist Church with Pastor Bud Peyton officiating. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
