MARY LOU SMITH Johnston City-Mary Lou Smith, 81of Johnston City, passed away at 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. She was born on February 11, 1933 to William and Gertrude (Smith) Modglin. She married Alfred "Bud" Smith on April 30, 1954. He preceded her in death in May 1987. Mary Lou worked as a caregiver in Johnston City for many years. She is survived by her son, Kent Smith and his wife Jane of Panama City, FL; granddaughter, Shaunda Smith Howell and husband Buck of Lexington Park, MD; a brother, Dennis Modglin of Johnston City; and longtime special friend, Virgil Harris of Johnston City. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glen, Charles, Carroll, Edward, and Roy Modglin; and sisters, Mildred Warren, Helen Looney, and Oneida McNeill. Per her request there will be no services. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.
